Aim of service

- Provision of culturally sensitive mental health care to children/adolescents and adults across Glasgow

- The service is aimed at people who have a past history of torture/rape or sexual assault and who have mental health problems such as depression or post-traumatic stress disorder.

- The service can respond to families where children and adults have been affected by traumatic events and now have mental health problems

Services provided:

- Individual counselling, psychotherapy or cognitive-behaviour therapy is provided.

- Individual and group art therapy is available.

- Group programmes: Women’s group programme and Mother and babies group.

Initially set up to support people who are seeking asylum, other local people are now encouraged to attend. A free, light lunch is provided, clothing and household goods are distributed and staff and volunteers are on hand for a chat. People attending are offered support, information and assistance with issues and problems. Every Tuesday, 12.30-2.30pm. Phone for details. Also started a women’s group called ‘Feel Good’ which offers keep fit from 12.15-1.15 daily and a crèche center.

Provides free, independent, confidential support and advice to female victims of abuse. The majority of their female clients are asylum seekers or refugees who have undergone traumatic gender violence in their country of origin. The female support worker can provide:

Support & Information in a bi-lingual and culturally sensitive setting.
Referrals to other specialist agencies, if appropriate.
The Law Centre is open from Monday-Friday 9-5pm. Closed for Lunch 1-2pm.
Women can self refer or be referred by another agency.
Meeting can be arranged in Sighthill or at Kingsway Court Health and Well being
Centre if the client is from those parts of Glasgow.
Office workers are fluent in various languages.
Interpreter available by arrangement (always try to ensure that a female interpreter
be made available)
Written information available in various different languages detailing the work of the
Law Centre.

An organisation which teaches English to speakers of other languages and works with refugees, asylum seekers and the black ethic minority population. This involves a personal tutor working with the service user and providinga support network to help them to achieve their personal goal.
